Going on vacation means checking out some a new restaurant or two and that is just what we did. As some of you might know I got back at the end of last month from our annual vacation to Bethany Beach in Delaware. We had a great time – so fun to see family and just relax for 7 days. While we were down there we checked out a couple of new restaurants so I wanted to share with you guys my top picks for restaurants in and around the Bethany Beach area.
The Big Chill Beach Club and Restaurant
The Big Chill Beach Club is near the Indian River inlet and it serves two purposes. It has a rooftop restaurant overlooking the ocean that serves lots of seafood and other items. But you also have access to the beach right there. There are bathrooms with showers to clean up and change before you go and eat which is great. What we normally do is spend the day on the beach – getting there early and then end the day with a late lunch overlooking the water. They also have games, hammocks and other family friendly items.
Salted Rim Restaurant
The Salted Rim is located right in Bethany Beach. This was by far one of my favorite restaurants during our trip. It is inside a train car – so it is extra thrilling for the kids as well. The food was delicious – the menu is Mexican-centric but they do offer other options. Also – their nachos were AMAZING. If you like Mexican food, I would definitely give this place a try!
Rusty Rudder
The Rusty Rudder is located in Dewey Beach, not far from Bethany and in my opinion has the best location. It has a beach and offers water views which are beautiful any time of day. You can eat inside or out overlooking the water. Lunch or dinner – they have a full menu of various options with plenty of seafood as well. At night it turns into a bit of a nightclub with live music and a rowdier crowd so if you have a family I would suggest dining their earlier – say around 6 or 7 so you miss the craziness in the evening time.
Ropewalk Restaurant
The Ropewalk was a new restaurant for us this year that we tried and I have to say it did not disappoint. We scoped it out in the beginning of the week meeting friends for drinks to see if we liked the menu. It has two floors and we sat overlooking the boardwalk and ocean and enjoyed some delicious appetizers and cool signature drinks.
While we were there for drinks we spoke with management and requested a reservation for a party of 11 that coming Thursday and they obliged. When we arrived at 7pm on Thursday we were seated right away – which is no easy feat for dinnertime near the beach. Our waitress was fantastic – the service and the food were incredible. Downstairs on the street level there is a pirate ship playground and sand for the kids to play in (supervised) which adds a cute flair and uniqueness to the place. All kids food is served on a frisbee, which they get to keep. They also have one of the coolest versions of kids activities – a type of sticky rope that they can design into different pictures. This was a huge hit with the kids and kept them wayyyy busier than your typical coloring page and crayon deal.
Big Fish Grill
Hands down the Big Fish Grill is my all-time favorite place to go in Rehoboth. It is very popular so expect to wait at LEAST 30 minutes for a table. As with most places at the beach in the summertime, they don’t take call aheads or reservations. Every time we have eaten the food and service is phenomenal, offering tons of fresh seafood options as well as other items like steaks for the land lovers.
So that sums up my top 5 favorite restaurants for the Bethany Beach area. If you haven’t already, check out my top 5 places to go at the Delaware seashore here. If you’re from the area or have gone there on vacation – what places do you recommend to eat? Leave me a note in the comments!
Until next time! Xx
The salted rim restaurant is my favorite form them all! I’ve always wanted to go in a place like this (like the Orient Express!), so cool!
