Today we went to Hillside Farms located in Shavertown, PA right off of Route 309. It is super easy to get to and they have a lot of cute things to do – all for free. The girls LOVE animals so we figured they would be super entertained by the farm animals and we were right. They have Alpacas, sheep, pigs, peacocks, goats, horses, cows, chickens and ducks. Some of the animals you can feed, others are on a strict diet. The girls loved petting the animals and giving them food. They also loved spending time in the nearby little brook playing in the water and looking for frogs and turtles.
One of my favorite things at Hillside Farms is the dairy store. They sell their own milk, ice cream, honey, eggs, and other products – straight from the farm. They have a little ice cream shop which always has a line but their ice cream is something they are known for – and is worth the 2 minute wait. The girls and I got our Mint Chocolate Chip in cups to go and my husband got a vanilla milkshake.
We walked around the property and looked through the greenhouses. You can purchase all of the flower and plants that are there. Most of the selection was picked over since it’s late in the season, but it’s still pretty to see.
Overall it was a nice family outing – and besides buying some milk and ice cream, it was free! The weather was beautiful – it was sunny but it was nice and cool – with a nice breeze. If you are in the area and have never been, you should check it out!
