I have heard about Marry Me Chicken for quite some time – Tik Tok, Instagram – you name it, but I never made it until recently. I have to say, I agree with all of the hype. I didn’t think it would be easy to make, but when I saw it made in a crockpot, I knew I had to try it. This recipe is now a go-to that will get made over and over.
Marry Me Chicken is chicken cooked in a creamy sundried tomato sauce. The sauce is made with heavy cream, garlic, and sun-dried tomatoes. It’s super simple but rich and flavorful and perfect for a special occasion or a quick weeknight dinner.
You can serve it over pasta, rice, or mashed potatoes for a complete meal. I served mine over pasta and it was delicious. We didn’t even have enough for leftovers because there was absolutely nothing left.
This crockpot chicken recipe is an easy one to follow and make. It requires just a few simple ingredients to create a restaurant-worthy creamy chicken dinner right at home. And my favorite part? The crock pot does all the work for you!
HOW TO MAKE MARRY ME CHICKEN IN THE CROCKPOT
Mix the thickener: In a medium-sized bowl, pour in the chicken broth along with the corn starch. Whisk to fully combine until there are no lumps. Pour into the bottom of the slow cooker.
Add the sauce ingredients: Add the heavy cream, garlic, black pepper, salt, Italian seasoning, paprika, and onion powder to the chicken broth mixture. Whisk it all together until well combined.
Add chicken and butter: Add the chicken breasts over the sauce, then top with pats of butter and the drained sun-dried tomatoes.
Slow cook: Cover with the lid. Cook in crockpot on HIGH for 2½ to 3 hours or LOW for 6-7 hours.
Remove and serve: When finished cooking, remove the chicken breast and slice if desired. Plate over rice, pasta, or vegetables, and ladle the creamy sauce on top. For full ingredient list & instructions – see below. Most of all, enjoy!

I made Marry Me Chicken many times on the skillet and then finished up in the oven and it always turns out tasty and perfect. However, this crockpot version was disappointing. I followed the instructions completely, and did not alter anything. There was way too much liquid in this dish. I did the thickening exactly as instructed and it never thickened up It was very runny. The chicken was floating in the liquid. I used this recipe because I wanted to spend time with my guests instead of time in the kitchen. I had to quickly think of a way to serve this to my guests so I shredded the chicken in the liquid and the flavors were very good but it was not my intent. I would of made pasta or mashed potatoes as a side instead of roasted veggies and potatoes. I will not be trying this again☹️
I’m sorry that it didn’t come out how you hoped – I am not sure why that happened. Quick thinking on your part to salvage the dish…was the chicken frozen? Depending on a lot of factors more corn starch may have been needed. I would suggest doing the same thing next time but adding a little more cornstarch to see if that makes a difference. Thanks for stopping by!
This recipe worked great for us! Followed everything to a T! I love this on the stovetop but crockpot is so much easier!! I will for sure do it this way in the future! Thank you! 🙂
Hi Kelly! So glad you liked it! It is definitely a delicious and time saving option to the stove top version. Thanks for stopping by!
I made this recipe yesterday and it was really good! I will say I always find a lot of sauces in the crock pot to be runnier than I like. I only made one adjustment and that was using just 1 cup of broth instead of 1 and a 1/2 cups. When I pulled my chicken out to slice it I just added a little cornstarch and water mix stirred it into the sauce made sure the crock pot was on high and the lid was on and that really helped to thicken it while I was cutting up the chicken. Hope this helps someone else!
Awesome! Glad it turned out great – thanks for the suggestion!
I had a quick question about the recipe! At the end when I remove the chicken to cut it do I need to take the sauce out and cook it more or is it ok to eat right out of the crockpot? Also I plan on cooking it on low for about 7 hours. Does this make the heavy cream curdle or go bad? Just wanted to clarify since I’m pregnant and didn’t want to take any chances! Thank you!
It’s ok to eat it out of the crockpot – the cream won’t curdle, just stir it occasionally. You can add more cornstarch if needed to keep the sauce nice and thick. It really depends on various crockpots – some cook it faster than others and require the addition of more corn starch if that makes sense – but it’ll definitely be safe to eat & delicious too!
Am I able to cook this with rice added to the crock pot?
I have never tried it – but I imagine you can.
tysm!
Has anyone tried using the “dried” sun dried tomatoes that are not in a jar of liquid? I would like to try it that way but was wondering if maybe it was already tried and not recommended. 🤪
I have not – and haven’t heard of anyone who has….so not sure what to say but maybe try it and see how it works out?
Can this be frozen?
I have never frozen it so I am not sure how it will be when you reheat it – but if you need to, try it out and see how it works. Let me know if you do! Thanks for stopping by!
I did like this one, but for me it just needed a little something extra! It didn’t thicken for me so I added flour. I also added some tomato paste and a little crushed chili. Also a little handful of spinach.I think fresh basil would also be lovely too!
