Since my dad moved to Delaware a few years ago, it has been our go-to destination for a beach vacation every summer. It is family friendly, not too crowded and offers a wide variety of things to do. Every time we go we do something entirely different than the last time which keeps it interesting. We always plan for a bunch of new things and see whatever fits into our schedule. Check out my Top 5 things to do if you plan on hitting the Delaware seashore this summer. Also don’t forget to check out my restaurant recommendations near Bethany Beach here.
Go to a Delmarva Shorebirds game.
If you enjoy America’s pastime or have kids that do, attending a Shorebirds game is a must. This minor league stadium is located in Salisbury, MD (about a half hour from Bethany Beach) and is an affordable option for being able to attend a game with your kids. For $5 a ticket, we were able to sit in between home and first base and even caught a foul ball (which the player that hit it later signed for my daughter). It is an up close and personal look at future prospects for major league baseball teams. The food there was affordable, and they have activities and bounce houses for the kids as well. My girls are not that into baseball, but they had a really good time.
Drive to Assateague Island
About 45 minutes away in Berlin, MD there is a protected beach where wild horses roam the landscape. They can be seen trotting along side your car and even going up onto the beach and taking a dip in the ocean – right next to you. Admission into the park is $10 which is good for 7 days unless you buy an annual pass. You are not allowed to touch or feed the horses but just watching them is absolutely amazing. While you are there you can have a beach day and play in the surf. Afterwards go and check out the town of Berlin – a quaint little town and is great for antiquing.
Go to Funland in Rehoboth Beach Delaware
When the sun sets and the breeze is nice and cool coming off of the water – that is the best time to check out Funland in Rehoboth. It is full of games and rides – all ranging in different levels for different ages. A book of 100 tickets is $30 and that lasted us a good while when we were there. The Haunted Mansion is a big attraction and ends up with quite a line – it opens at 5pm, so keep that in mind if you want to check that out. Funland can also be a great cover in case it starts raining while you are at the beach.
Check out the Salisbury Zoo
Another attraction located in Salisbury, MD – but if you are zoo lovers like us and our kids, it’s worth the drive. Admission is free to this small zoo but the animal encounters and other fun offers make it worth it. Every hour the staff walk around with a different animal to show off to the crowd. You get to learn about the animal and even pet it. While we were there they had great activities for kids that included making butterflies out of coffee filters. It is open 7 days a week from 9am-430pm and is a great stop in the morning to add in before heading home.
The Outlets in Rehoboth, Delaware
Every year I visit Delaware I have to check out the outlets. I usually come away with amazing deals and this time was no different. Last year I scored a Michael Kors purse and wallet for 70% off and this year I was able to get a bunch of candles from Yankee Candle and found some great sales at Children’s Place. It is mostly outdoors, so it is not a good option for a rainy day. It is something I suggest when you are done with the beach or perhaps after an early dinner in Rehoboth.
There is no shortage of things to do on the Delaware Seashore. Let me know in the comments what you have done or plan to do while vacationing there! Good night! Xx
